Discussion:
Allis Chalmers Model FPB 20 24 Forklift info needed?

Anyone know any info (weight rating, max mast lift height, engine make...) on an Allis Chalmers Model FPB 20 24. I assume the 4 cylinder engine is made by Continental? Is the lift capacity 1 or 2 K? Can parts still be obtained for an old Allis Chalmers forklift?

I found out I was wrong on the manual trans clutch, on the Allis. It has a shuttle shift type clutch.

I would think that has a clutch petal and not a clutch lever on the shifter. Brake parts are available, it's everything else that may be a problem.

I finally got in touch with the seller of the Allis Chalmers forklift. I emailed my cell # to him, and he rang me up this evening. Here's what I found out. He has had the lift for 3 years. He got it in a trade, and really hasn't used it much. Says he starts it a few times a month, and it fires ring up. The brakes did work when he got it, but not longer do (probably can't get brakes for that old of a lift now?). It can lift 1 ton. Mast max height is 7'. The mast can also tilt forward. The engine is a Waukesha model FC 133 4 cylinder. It is a manual trans. I believe the clutch lever is on the shifter. Basically you pull in a motorcycle like handlebar lever (on the vertical shift lever), move the stick forward or backward, then let out the hand lever (as you would a clutch on the floor of an automobile). So I guess I have to make a decision now?

John,
That's true! Unfortunately; the seller is 250 mi from me, so I can't just hop in the pickup and have a look at it. His feedback score on Ebay is pretty good. Still waiting to hear from seller with info on the lift.

Be careful if the seller is only wanting to sell it for $500 it can't be much. That is about what you can get for it at a scrap yard.

John,
Thanks much for that helpful info, especially the contact phone #. I really appreciate it! I emailed the seller of the lift yesterday, and still haven't gotten a reply. If the lift is in operating order, I will probably buy it, as the price is right ($500). I can always upgrade at a later time.

Here is a little help;
1. The unit has a basic lift capacity of 2000 lbs. At 24" load center
2. The engine is a Waukesha model FC 133.
3. Make lift height would depend on what mast is installed on the lift - two section or 3 section & what the mast collapsed height is.
4. This a unit that is very old at least 30 years parts are hard to find as A-C has disappeared.
5. But there are two people I know of in Illinois (Alsip) that might be able to help you they work for the Komastu forklift factory store in Chicago - Scott Eller & Bob Halverson. These guys are old A-C guys and probably can help. tele 708.385.0330.
6. Try to find the serial number either on the nameplate or stamped on the frame.
