Yes the mico-lock is unsafe and should not be relied upon as a sole means for parking the truck, they are forbidden for all but agricultural applications here (farms are exempt from OHSA regs)

Step, if you ever read the disclaimer in the mico-brake lock box, you might note that they specifically say not to use the mico lock for extended parking or as a replacement for parking brakes.
Your suggestion about finding a local source for cables is a good Idea, I used to get cables made from the place that made our more custom hoses, but in part that was because they also did a lot of marine business and had customers needing custom made cables for boat motor steering and controls. Maybe some marina stores might know who could make up the cable for the OP.

"it's not rocket surgery"
you may have better luck using the old wire (cable) as a sample for a prototyper or mfr of cables to make a duplicate. i know that some here exist in canada from equipment shows i have gone to, perhaps you may find some in your country. if not, you may consider a mico-lock brake valve, that is a releasable check valve that when activated allows you to pump up and lock brake pressure on, then release it by turning the handle lever. but the wheel cylinders must not leak! and you must comply with local regulations
