Has anyone heard of any issues that CAT has with Steer Axles on the DP70?

We have a DP50 which is the same as the Nissan F04G45UT's we have. There has been a modification done to the later models that has grease nipples and a re-designed bottom bearing plate. In the early models we take the bottom plug out and grease it through that, then replace the plug. In the later models the seals are also fitted different in order to keep the dirt out. The new bottom plates are different and are not retro-fitted to the older models. Probably worth turning the seals over we have not done this yet (but will on the next rebuild) if the axle is greased regularily in the older type.

There are no known issues with the steer axle in these units. Are you havin spindle bearing failures? or Wheel bearing failures? If so, you need to disassemble and repack more often, or drill and add some zerts.

We are having an issue and are being told that it is due to the type of work and terrain that the forklifts are operating in. I have also been told that there is a known problem with the steer axels on the DP70's.

Are you suffering with a problem or simply interested if there are known issues?

Fact of the week
The word "robotics" was coined by Russian-born American science-fiction writer Isaac Asimov who first used the word in 1942 in his short story 'Runabout'. He characterised robots as helpful servants and as "a better, cleaner race."
