Discussion:
Saving Fuel

I am in search of a way to save fuel consumption for my fleet of forklifts. Apart from telling drivers not to speed or rev unncessarily or leave the engine running for no reason, what else can I do?

Are there devices/methods/additives that that help achieve this?

One idea that was suggested to me was a device that would either alert the driver if the forklift has been idling for too long i.e. no lifting no driving, or it would just shutdown. IS there such a device?

Change to a higher durometer tire compound and change tires more frequently. Your operators & equipment might not like you too much especailly w/pneumatic tire forklifts - but that depends on the operating surfaces.

Keep units fuel and ignition systems clean and fuel supply clean and of good quality.

"Have An Exceptional Day!"
There are devices which will shut down the truck after excess idle time, these can be adjusted to suit. Or try a speed limiter. Another option is CNG powered truck if you are using LPG currently, it is expensive to install initially but the long term ROI is huge. Most FLT companies would be able to advise.

Review facility layout and processes (aisle design, slotting, putaway and picking processes). See if task interleaving, batch picking, or other would be options for your material handling processes. See about the possibility of modifying the lift trucks (or getting different equipment) to move multiple pallets at a time. Use more efficient vehicles form longer distance moves. There are a lot of ways to reduce the distance traveled by warehouse workers that will not only save fuel, but will also save labor and wear and tear on equipment.

Hi chewingyu

First question is for you to advise what fuel you are using? And what engines you have fitted to your forklift? And what fuel system is being used?
