Discussion:
Hi-volume US warehouse- brand suggestions for NA fleet

Looking to put in a new fleet of (20)reach trucks and (16) order pickers. Would like any suggestions on the best choices of makers. Stay with one brand or mix the fleet? I'm open in my thoughts right now.
Our interest is to lease and not to own and to cover the equipment with full maintenance agreements. I would like any suggestions in what to require and avoid in the terms of both types of agreements.
Thanks from North Mississippi DC

My suggetion is that go for one manufacturer who ever it will be. You'll find much easier to work with one partner and you can get more out of it as well. As somebody mentioned earlier small stock of wear parts that can stop your truck.
Be sure to take time when choosing right batteries and chargers. You can save a lot on long run. I do not know what you are used to use over there but I'd go for central watering system on batteries and HF chargers. I'd look also for battery fleet management. Have you considered an alternative to reach and order pickers, which not only save valuable space but are also far more flexible? I refer to the articulated forklifts pioneered in Britain by Translift Bendi and which can work in aisles only 1.6 mt wide compared with a reach truck's typical need for a minimum of 2.6 mt. Unlike reach trucks, they can also work out on rough yards, loading/unloading lorries, and can lift loads to 13 mt high. Typically, a Bendi can allow operators to store around 33% more pallet positions than a reach truck.

In the States, the Bendi is made by Landoll, of Marysville, Kansas, originally under licence from Translift Bendi in the UK. The latter has also recently invented a man-up version of the Bendi for order picking needs which still offers the same very narrow aisle working capabilities of the man-down versions and yard work capabilities. You might say a truck for all occasions.

Id say go with crown but that the truck I know best. Reguardless try to stay with one manufacture If you talk to them see if you gan get a part cabinet on site so you do have to wait for tech to run get a part. All trucks break down soner or later. If you are going to lease that many you may even be abel to cut a deal as compared to someone who only wants a few.

The buisness Iwork for has just gone thru the same process. We ended with one supplier to provide all our MHE equipment. It made the maintenance contract easier, and we are able to monitor down time more efficentley, as all machines came from the same manufacturer I found that training especially familirisation training was easy with support from the manufacturer. Additionally purchasing were able to come up with a very good lease agreemnt based on cost
