best way to find TDC is to just pull out the injector on #1 and get a stiff wire or something that you can stick down in the hole...
rotate the engine till the piston is at the top of it's stroke...
Just make sure it is on the compression stroke
you will know because it will be hard to turn usually
also the rockers on the valves will be relaxed on that cylinder(valves closed)
