I have done several searches and indeed I have found many systems. An electric forklift is just a bid different. An example is the idea of just starting the pump when you need to lift. Most hydraulic systems have the pump running all the time.

I just wanted to double check myself and make sure I have not missed anything. Like I said, I was a bit surprised to see that the forklift had a few more parts than I expected. I figure it is a good practice to see what they did.

I agree the liability issue is huge but as long as it is for personal use only and we are the only ones using it, I am not worried. My last job was as a consultant in a plant making nuclear fuel. Every project was driven by safety and liability concerns.

I would hate to build this unit and then not have spare parts on hand. This is why I would like a service manual and/or parts diagram for the original unit.

Just FYI... here is a link to a motor home I modified so my wife could travel ( she needs care in a hospital bed every 4 hours ). Again, because of the liability, I would not do this for most people but for ourselves I did not mind building a lift. It cost less to do all the work on the RV than the cost of purchasing just the lift.
