The VSM on this truck has a timer circuit that can stay on as little as 30 seconds and as long as 1 hour. It sounds like you have a diode issue in the alternator. You can check it like checking the battery with no meters, just remove the wires when you shut the truck down and see if the battery goes dead. You might have an issue with the power distribution module, or the wiring harness where it goes under the battery.
