Discussion:
PSI 2.4 engine oil consumption

Hey all, new guy here, but I've picked up some great tips from the forums, so thanks for that!
My question is about some newer trucks with the PSI 2.4l LP engine. I've been working on a few tricks with this engine and they are losing about a quart and a half of engine oil a week. Anyone else seeing issues with this? No leaks, no oil on the coolant. Trucks now have about 1800 hours on them and have been consuming oil since new.

Put a 0-15 # gauge in the 1/8 pipe plug port on the vaporizer. Should maintain 2-4# with the truck running.

Are you loosing spark? You may have a fuel system problem if you are not loosing spark. You should be getting a fault code if the truck shuts off while running.

I work for Yales brother..I have 8 PSI trucks in a 24/7 operation that is hot and dirty. Have seen many coolant tube issues and also water pumps ' Trucks are 1.5 years old and some are near the 8000 hour mark. I have not seen any oil use in any. Have seen oil leaks at filter fittings but no big usage as you describe. Only other issue on all units was fault code running rich. Tried a few things but did not resolve issue. Opened up mixer and found propane oil and dirt build up on the bulb of the diaphragm. Cleaned off, put back together and all running fine again. Diaphragm was heavy and not moving properly. Saves wasting customer money on new mixer.

I'm a field tech for the local dealer. I've made some folks aware of what I've been seeing and they are looking into it. I was just curious to see if anyone else had noticed issues with these engines, the only other problems I've had are the o rings on the water pipe that runs from the thermostat housing to the fuel system.

We have quite a few of these. We have not seen any oil consumption issues yet. Will check with other field techs and let you know. Have you contacted the dealer?
