Hyster J30XMT2 steer angle pot issue

hey guys

getting code 212 (pot volts too low, r/s controller) when the steering is deaded to the right side i believe, steering straight or to the left the truck works fine

went out looked at the machine
i had another pot to throw at it with the same result

took continuity from P12 to the pot, 0 ohms

when i check the handset (function 25 mem loc 95)
i have 110 centered but when i turn i go down to 42 and up to 176

the 42 seems low though but this machine has no steer stops other than the rack inside the axle

i have the breakout box coming in tomorrow for the GE boxes to make sure im getting the same readings on both P12's (there isnt much room to backprobe)

any ideas?

what serial number prefix is your truck justin. D160/G160 or J160.
g160 is best setup with the laptop , j160 can be done throught the dash or you can jack both front wheels up and run a caulk line across the treads. when the pot is setup right the wheels should be turning at the same speed.

yeah i tried turning it to about 2.23v and 2.07v either way and got the same result (with center being 2.15v by the manual)
i didnt want to go too far off the center voltage

do you remember where you had it set for center?

Hi justinm,

I had same problem on the same truck I was able to fix it by jacking up steer tires why customer turned the wheel why i adjusted the new poteniometer. The reading did not match exactly the required center postion number the manuel called for but the truck works fine now and its been over 8 months. Hope this helps you.
