How to retrieve error codes.

Linde H35D

Working on an Linde H35, and the check engine light comes on after about one minute after starting the engine. But it doesn't display the code.
How do I retrieve the code without software?

If there is a shortage of engine oil then no error code is shown. First check the oil level.
