No problem Ken, Its the least we can do! Glad we could help. There is a whole team here and we are only a call or email away!
Hi all. Just an update on the Heli forklift. I got it up and running only with a lot of help from David from Martins lift truck. It turned out to be a governor problem. i would never have figured it out without the help from Martins lif truck. super helpful people. i can:t thank you enough David. Kind regards Ken
Hi David. It is stamped on the convertor port (primary test port) It is also a brand new genuine impco. I think i will try to get another gauge just in case my reading is incorrect and report back. Many thanks for your time. Ken
Feel free to shoot me an email at sales at martinslifttruck dot com if you have a any more questions, I will most likely be quicker to respond.
Hey Ken, Forklift action has been down and I could not post a reply a few days ago. Make sure you are testing at the primary test port. Its a 1/4" plug with a 7/16 hex. The line that goes to the carb is a vapor draw line. I think you are testing at the correct place but I just want to confirm. If you have line pressure into the convertor and nothing at the primary test port the convertor is bad. When all else fails I always ran a direct line from the tank to the convertor bypassing the lockoff just to be super sure.
More updates if anyone can help? I open the high pressure pipe from the cut off going to the regulator and with everything else connected (Don't try this at home children) gave the key a quick turn and there is full pressure there for sure! I still cannot get any pressure reading at the regulator test port. My digital test pressure tester is new and I checked it on my van wheel and compressor and seems to work fine. My adaptor at the reg is just a treaded on one end brass pipe and I have a valve from a car rim shoved up on it. I used this adaptor before testing other equipment and it seems to work well. Just to be sure the valve is opening I cut of the first 1mm off it so it will be sure to open. Long story short I have full high pressure going into a brand new reg but I am not getting the results at the test port. The only other thing I did since is I found a restrictor inside a red plastic pipe which runs from air intake and enters nears the base of the throttle body. This restrictor did seem to be a bit blocked but after clearing it the engine will now no longer run it just starts and instantly stops. Any ideas welcome.
Hello people. Back at this Heli again after a few months as I was busy with other things. After opening the regulator several times and not seeing anything wrong with it i ordered a new Impco model j which was a match for my old unit. Still no joy, before I ordered it I stripped down the throttle body twice and cleaned it spotless. I thought maybe the vacuum pipe was cracked or blocked or something. Again it only runs on tick over and as soon as you press your foot it instantly stops. Then restarts straight away. Now I did a pressure test on the new regulator and it shows nothing at all on tick over and just before it stops after pressing the gas it reads 0.2 bar! As David said it should read 1.5 + this is not much good. When the machine arrived here it ran correctly and would rev out no problem except for it freezing up. But I sorted the blockage in the water line and now the pipes warm correctly. I had also stuck on a new cylinder of gas at that time so today I put back on the old bottle just in case but it made no difference. When I was at this a few months back I created a vacuum while the pipe going to the reg was off and there was a full flow of gas. I also stuck on an ignition tester and the sparking is continuous. Any ideas? Ken
The 25a does not ring a bell to me right away. The part I am thinking of is "Impco Model Jb-2 Propane Convertor Regulator". Also if this unit has a flow restrictor in the coolant hose I would remove it and just install a standard fitting. I have had quite a few of these plug up as the units get older. In any case I will do my best to get you all the info you need.
Thanks for taking the time to reply David. It is an impco alright. 25a stamped on top right hand side. I need to locate a fitting small enough to fit my pressure gauges. I will update you regardless of the outcome. Thanks again i am gratefull for your help
Sounds to me like you have a bad convertor. If its an impco j2 converter they did not like being frozen off more than twice normally. There is a small steel tab in there that would bend and it would cause high fuel pressure. Pull the primary test port plug (1/4 inch plug with 7/16 head) and check the pressure. It should be about 1.5 psi. anything over 3 psi will give you problems. If you do replace the convertor I would recommend the impco cobra. Its a bit tougher. Hope this helps
I have since opened the lp pipe between the shut of valve and the regulator and after creating a vacume to release the gas i can confirm there is a full flow of gas going into the regulator. I also oped both side plates on the regulator and peeped in and everything seems spotless inside.
