Cat Lift Trucks (& Caterpillar) GC25K OR GP25K:
GC25K emergency brake

I have a gc25k that the parking brake is not holding. These items have been replaced with new total source brand parts: brake shoes, parking brake cables, drums, park brake lever, also wheel and master cylinders.

Everything is adjusted to the max and still not holding the unit still at an idle. The cables are pulled down to the max at the lever and lever is also out of adjustment. The shoes have been ran in and properly adjusted as well. I am wondering if the use of aftermarket parts is to blame. All parts and numbers have been double checked to make sure they are right for the application. Also have had same problems on GP25k lifts using the same types of new parts.

Anyone have this before? Thanks in advance for any answers.

That right there makes it appear that the brake cables themselves are not to the length specifications of the OEM Cat cables.
You have already adjusted everything to the maximum available.......and you are not even close to achieving a working parking brake. So even if it did work now, how would you compensate for normal wear in the near future?
Might be a good time to compare the Total Source branded cables to Cat OEM cables for length. You DO NOT want to check just the length of the cable outer housing.
You need to check the length of the inner wire cable at both ends of the cable. If the inner wire cable is longer at either end than the OEM cable, that extra length will consume much of the range of adjustment.

How did you rough up the drums? I find these new brake shoe compounds need a considerable amount of run in time before they "bite" to my liking.

what did the backing plates look like?
when you had the shoes off were there worn spots where the shoes ride? there should be raised spots where the shoes ride, sometimes they get grooves worn where the shoes move back and forth and this can cause restriction in shoe movement making the brakes act just like this. NO amount of adjustment will override hanging up shoes. Those brakeshoes must have full free movement against the backing plates or you get exactly this. If you find these grooves worn into the standoff pad area where the shoes ride you will need to install new backing plates as well.

you get what you pay for in aftermarket parts.....CHEAPER isnt always better......ends up being more expensive in the long run in my opinion
