Cat Lift Trucks (& Caterpillar) V60B:
F227 continental low compression

I have a 1974 cat v60b with a continental f227 6 cylinder flathead propane engine. Purchased it non running. Previous owner replaced starter, distributer, plugs, wires, rebuilt carb.

Engine will not start. Compression test on cold engine reveals 60, 60, 60,60, 95,100 when dry. Added a couple squirts of oil and they are as follows:
1=75 and holds. 2=50 on first stroke, then 80 then drops. 3=90 then drops. 4=90 then 110 then drops, 5=90 first stroke, then 145 then slowly drops. 6=90, then 100 then drops.

Sounds like bad rings to me. Anything else to look at? I was hoping a head gasket, but that doesn't look likely.

Fact of the week
The Michelin Guide with its star rating system originated in France in 1900. The guide was created as a marketing tool to encourage more car travel and consequently increase the demand for tyres. It initially contained maps, tire repair instructions, and lists of restaurants, hotels, and mechanics.
