Discussion:
Drive motor made noise and everything shut off.

This 2004 Yale Electric Pallet Jack is a model no. MPB040EN24T2748 S/N B827N13699B

I bought it from a private party and they said the drive motor was bad and was determined by their mechanic (not a forklift technician).

When I got it back to my shop, it all worked but I notice a rough, kind of whiny sound in the drive motor. And the next day it all worked until I drove it 20 feet or so and it all stopped working, everything. A Code AL 10 showed up.

I didn't have time yet, but a good friend of mine that refurbishes hundreds of walkie stackers per year always told me to check the brushes first. So I need to do that, I also know what the brushes should look like and if they need replacing. I just have to find out where to look.

So I am kind of jumping the gun right now. But I wanted to see the comments I may read so that if the brushes are good, what is next? I guess checking the drive motor for continuity?

Please advise on code AL 10 and anything else that will help me.

check the brushes real well, make sure they are not sticking in the brush holders. Sometimes carbon dust will build up inbetween the brush and the brush holder causing it to stick. When the brush leaves the armature surface it breaks the circuit causing the unit to not move.
You can try using motor cleaner and pull on the brush leads to work the brushes loose, then see how it drives.
Also pay attention to how much brush is left, how far down are they worn?
