Toyota 6BDRU15:
Code 72

Getting a code 72 on this truck. Guessing it could be steering related, but not sure. Does anyone have a manual on this code? I checked all of mine, but I have no listing of a 72. The book I have jumps from 69 to 73.

I took the board out and popped the battery out. Checked the voltage of the battery and got about 2.935V. Cleaned everything off and reinstalled. The truck is now running fine.
Thanks for the help!
Regards,
Eric

Updated info for code

If the Error Code 72 is intermittent the cause may be from static electricity. Check that the truck is equipped with a static strap or chain. It should be making a good, clean contact with the floor. Install new strap or chain if missing. (chain is more durable) A static electricity arc can cause a temporary interruption in communication.

Check the battery located in the tractor interface card. The battery, even though it is estimated to last many years, may be dead. The battery may be replaced as a low cost alternative to replacement of the tractor interface card. It a new battery does not correct eliminate the Error Code 72, the tractor interface card will require replacement.

No it doesn't, but I know of there being a battery in the card that can cause issues. The card is located behind the right panel. I do not know how to get to it for sure. You be able to pull the cover off and get to it. It is a watch style battery.

Thanks for the reply! I will start with checking the wiring connections and go from there. Cycling the key did not work. Since these look like Curtis motor controllers, I did notice the status lights are blinking normally. Hopefully its a connection problem, but you never know. Does the book list any specific i/o tests for this?
