hello, i have a clark reach truck that has a code 51. Model NPR15D ser# NPR345-0171-9431fb. hyd. ok only lift and lower. I connect the baterry and turn keyswithch on and get code 51. line contactor does not come on. does anyone have an idea of the code description or what to check? any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks jorge.

Code 46= defective transistor, shorted 1a contactor, defective osc. Card. Tested all components, found shorted transistors. Went to dealer to order parts and they have an updated transistor kit that replaces the 2 old transistors. Old ones not available anymore. Replaced with new transistor kit and truck running fone now.
Thanks for all your help
Thank you. Just got done installing the rec. Turned keyswitch on no more code 51. Stepped on deadman pedal and o.k. moved control handle fwd or reverse and get code -46 in both directions. What does this code indicate???
That is your #3 REC.......Is used in the charge circuit for the capacitors
Disassembled rec panel and tested recs. Found 1 shorted. The one that the white wire and blue wire hook up to. There are 2 that are exactly alike. This will probably end up being the problem because there was continuity between the positive and negative connecting bars at the capacitors. Ordered part and will install.
Thanks. Checked the motor for shorts. None found. Checked all contactors. All ok. What I did notice that when I check for voltage at the capacitors they only get to 18v and then start draining down to zero. Probably something shorted. Also when I hook up baterry I can hear and see slight arcing.
yep....
possible causes for code -48 are 3 rec or 23 snubber
also might want to check the fwd/rev contacts for welding or slow enguagement
but if you're getting the -51 first get that fixed first
possible causes are
- tag lines being used unfiltered
or
- battery cables too long
or could be high peak current in motor so check motor for shorted field windings or armature windings.
those black square blocks are driver modules
this smoking suppressor your talking about might be the result of you manually pressing that contactor in while the faulty component has not been repaired. I would not do that anymore till you fix the problem or you will burn something else up costing you more headaches and money.
BE CAREFUL...around those Big blue capacitors, they will bite HARD and cause some injury if not discharged PROPERLY!!!
Sounds like a SHORTED #'3 Rec...........
Jorge...have an email to post in your profile?
Thanks kevin t. I've checked all that and still the same. I connect the battery and step on the deadman pedal and get the hour meter reading (o.k). As soon as I turn the keyswitch on I get code -51. I tried manually closing the line contactor and it stays on o.k. then I move the controll handle to move unit fwd or reverse and get code -48 in both directions. I also noticed what I think is a suppressor getting hot and smoking till i turn keyswitch off.the suppressor is connected between the red and brown wires coming from the OSC controller connector to two black rectangular shaped components with 4 prongs each. I have no manuals for this
truck or wiring diagrams, schematics, component location charts. I have an idea these might be recs. They are next to the blue capacitors and look like they are hooked up to them via aluminum buss bars. When I manually close the line contactor the steer motor comes on fine and am able to turn steefing wheel fine but get code-48 and the smoking suppressor. Anybody have any ideas???
Possible causes of -51 on NPR
Defective capacitor.
- Check capacitor bank per component checking section.
- Check for loose or open connections in capacitor circuit.
*Misadjusted / defective steer interlock switch.
- Check to insure that the steer interlock switch closes after
the line contactoh power tips close. Repair or replace. -Defective steer control.
- Disconnect the positive cable and 4PL plug from the steer control. If status code disappears, repair steer control.
-Open circuit in capacitor precharge circuit.
- Check for loose connection or broken wire (WHT) at #3 REC
heat sink or along the length of the wire.
- Check for loose or corroded connection at terminal PZ14.
- Check for loose connection or broken wire (BLACK) at 1FU
power fuse or along the length of the wire.
- Check for loose or corroded connection at terminal PBl.
*Unsuppressed voltage spikes.
- Check that any and all coils, including horns, that are
present on the truck have the proper voltage suppression. - Check that the static drag chain is present on the truck and
dragging on the floor so that it keeps static electricity from building up in the truck.
also no fwd or reverse. when i turn keyswitch off and back on again the code is still there.
