Allis Chalmers FP40-24:
Clutch will not disengage

I have had this forklift for quite a few years and other than normal maintenance it has been trouble free. The previous owner must have had some clutch issues because I noticed they welded an extension onto the rod linkage going from the pedal to the trans. All of a sudden the pedal won't do a thing but it is stuck in an engaged position. We can use the forklift by starting it in gear-I know this isn't good but it is the only way it will move. This is obviously a pain because we are constantly turning it on and off.
My guess is that the clutch is rusted/stuck to the flywheel but any advice to help free it up would be appreciated-especially if it involves NOT pulling the transmission out!

hello brad.this is probably a stupid question but have you tried disconnecting the linkage to see if the clutch dissengages?
