I have a Clark C500-50, 4000 lbs forklift (not sure the year). It has the flathead Waukesha D-155 engine. I have neglected to change the oil for sometime and just did today. The problem is I do not have a way to access the oil filter. I assume it is on the underside near the oil pan. I don't have any other equipment around to lift this forklift so that there is enough clearance to reach the filter. What is the safest way to get this up into the air enough to access this filter? And I suppose first of all am I looking in the right place? Thanks,
Shane

Are you sure you have a Clark model C500-50? That model number indicates it is a basic 500 lb. unit (you've stated it has a 400 lb. lift capacity) and the Wauhesha engine D155 G is an overhead valve engine that Clark private labeled (the Clark name is cast in the rocker arm cover). The flat head engine that Clark used was the F163 in there C series & C300 series in this capacity range.
A serial number can help identified what you have, this is on the truck number plate & stamped in the frame and is in a format like ****-yyyy-zzzz.
The hydraulic filter is on the drivers right side inside the hydraulic oil tank, there is a bolted on round plate that needs to be removed to access the hyd. filter.
I found the engine oil filter and was able to match it up perfectly. It was right up top. The transmission filter is on the left side and engine oil on the right. I thought for sure the engine oil one was for the hydraulics, but after looking closely it only had two small lines going to it from what looks like an oil pump? Any idea where the hydraulic oil filter would be?
This truck probably has a canister filter on it,up top someplace should be a round metal cylinder with a bolt in the top, take the bolt out and lift the top off and the filter will be inside.
