Hyster H50XL:
brakes lock up

On this Hyster H 50 XL after operating the lift for about 30 minutes continuously, the brake drums get very hot & the brakes lockup. After allowing them to cool the lift can continue for a short while then will lock up again. This only happens when using to unload a full semi. Normal warehouse use does not cause them to lock up' I am wondering if there is brake fluid accumulating in the brake system that is not bleeding back to the master cylinder due to the higher number of times the brakes are applied during the unloading process. And what in the brake system could cause such a restriction? There is lots of pedal & the brakes stop it fine until they lock up then they stop it too well.

Thank you very much, it had no play at all. I adjusted the play as you suggested & operated it under extreme working conditions for over 45 minutes without the brakes locking up. Great advice

you need to insure the push rod into the master cylinder has a bit of free-play when the brakes are released (1/8 inch)

The concept of Daylight Saving Time (DST) was first implemented in Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada in 1908. The first proposal for DST, however, came in 1895 from New Zealand entomologist George Hudson who valued extra daylight so that he could hunt bugs after work during the summer months. He suggested a two-hour daylight-saving shift.
