I just purchased a used FMF-040 fork lift. From my research here and elsewhere it seems to be a Baker or rebadged Linde. Serial starts with 0 (oh).
There seems to be quite a few free resources (manuals, parts lists) for other models FJF.
Questions:
1) What does the lever/brake do on the floor to the right of the seat?
2) Is there a service manual for the FMF-040? Or is it the same as other models?
3) What is the max lift capacity? And does it decrease as the load rises?
4) What is the gross weight?

I have an FMF-040 also, and was wondering if you were able to find a manual for yours? I've been digging all over creation and haven't found one for the FMF-040. I can find other manuals on eBay FJD, FTD, FMD, FID, etc... but nothing for the FMF. Any idea if other models are the same. I just want to make sure I buy the right manual for our machine.

It is odd that the gears would be worn. Assuming they are and it is a Continental engine then the numbers will be stamped on the gears. The numbers should be something like F600....
This forum setup is extremely old fashioned and very very difficult to follow a thread.
The timing cover is still in place, if there's part numbers stamped I will disassemble and make my start from there.
Do you have the old gears? If so, the part #'s are stamped into them.

Which has been removed for some reason, probably a rule I didn't read before signing up.
I am seeking timing gears for this motor, and I cannot date the rig or ID the engine because nobody has any googable info on this baker 2K lift.
I'm seeking the same info for my Baker-Otis FGD-040, I need timing chain and or gears, basically any information I can get in identifying the year of this lift and the flathead four cylinder engine.

Please post a photo. Most likely the two nuts that you are referring to are the brake adjusters. If you have a hard pedal and the truck doesn't stop then the brake shoes are oil soaked and must be replaced.
Thank you everybody for the help provided in this forum. I do have a couple of questions.
I am working on this forklift because of no brakes, i have no idea of the model or serial number, since i couldn't find it anywhere. I have removed the wheels and looking in the back of the drums it has only 2 nuts, are this the one to be removed in order to have access to the brake system? when i do this will the axle came out with the drum?
I have more time now and will try to restore this machine as much as possible. First on the list is fixing the brakes. I appreciate all the help so far!

Once I get working brakes I want to look at the transmission. Also I believe the engine is leaking and allowing a lot of the fuel to escape.

What is it that you are trying to move in your backyard with the forklift? You're asking questions to people that repair and maintain forklifts to keep them at factory safety specs about using a forklift with no counterweight and brakes. I think you may be on your own.
