Nuvera Fuel Cells has announced the completion of alpha testing for a 45 kW fuel cell engine. Nuvera recently shipped multiple engines to partners in Europe and China for integration into commercial medium- and heavy-duty vehicle applications.

Nuvera's fuel cell engine enables powertrain electrification for materials handling equipment, buses, trucks and other vehicles.

"We're at a pivotal moment in the transportation industry," says Jon Taylor, president of Nuvera. "Nuvera is defining the next generation of advanced motive power. It's our mission to provide vehicle OEMs and their customers with high-performance zero-emission engine options."

While the announcement doesn't specify applications for the new high-power engine, a spokesperson told Forkliftaction News that "Nuvera's new 45 kW engine is apt for some of the larger port equipment in (Hyster-Yale's) product line, and the same engine can be used in other platforms including buses, drayage trucks, yard tractors, automobiles and more".

The first engines have been shipped to two customers: Hyster-Yale Group, Nuvera's parent company, and Zhejiang Runfeng Hydrogen Engine Company, Nuvera's Chinese partner, the spokesperson adds.

Nuvera is a subsidiary of Hyster-Yale Group.
