 A JLG compact telehandler |
RSC Equipment Rental Inc is partnering with JLG Industries to introduce solid tyres on all its new telehandlers.
John McVeigh, RSC Rental's vice president of product management, says the solid tyres will bring advantages to customers and the environment.
"This exciting step will benefit our rental customers by further reducing the likelihood of downtime caused by flats and related tyre issues," McVeigh says. Solid tyres also increase the operator's ride comfort compared to flat-resistant tyres and meet the weight/ballast requirements for telehandlers.
He explains that solid tyres, which have a longer lifespan, will also help reduce the number of tyres in landfills.
A prior successful implementation of similar tyres on skid-steer and industrial forklifts in 2005 helped RSC decide to make solid tyres standard for all its new telehandlers.
RSC claims it is the only US nationwide rental chain that is making solid tyres standard on telehandlers through its relationship with JLG. JLG will supply RSC with solid tyres on all new telehandlers as a factory upgrade.
RSC boasts it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by over 26 million tons through implementing an equipment refurbishment program in 2001, environmentally safe parts washers in 2003 and evaluating solid tyres in 2005.
It estimates to have saved over USD100 million through these and other customer-friendly programs that positively impact the environment.
"As an innovative leader in the rental industry, the introduction of products with a longer lifetime is also a responsible step in terms of managing our overall waste, efficiency and use of resources," McVeigh explains.
"We believe this is a responsible choice in a differentiating area for our customers and our communities."
