A father-of-three from Salford has died in an accident involving a forklift at a Sainsbury's warehouse, according to the Manchester Evening News.

An investigation has been launched into the death of Christopher Rogers, 30, who suffered severe head injuries in the incident.

Rogers, from Worsley, was pronounced dead at a Sainsbury's Distribution Centre in Haydock in St Helens, Merseyside, despite paramedics' efforts to save him.

Police officers were called to the centre, on Hall Wood Avenue, after workers reported a colleague had been involved in an incident with a forklift.

An investigation into the circumstances of Rogers' death has been launched by St Helens council environmental protection officers, police in Merseyside have confirmed.

Police say Rogers' death is being treated as 'unexplained', but a colleague is quoted as saying he was working in the yard outside on the forklift truck, he turned a corner and the truck tipped over.

A Sainsbury's spokesman has confirmed the incident, saying: "We are working closely with the authorities to complete an urgent investigation into the cause of the accident.

"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his friends and family."
