Mumbai-headquartered global engineering and manufacturing solutions provider Samvardhana Motherson Global Carriers Limited (Motherson) has moved into the materials handling space signing a joint venture with plastic materials handling and storage product maker Sanko Japan.

Under the JV Motherson, which is best known as an auto parts manufacturer, will produce a range of sustainable materials handling products including pallets, dolly carts and bulk containers, for use across India and Europe.

Motherson, a subsidiary of SMRC Automotive Holdings Netherlands, will hold the majority 51% stake in the JV with Sanko holding the remaining 49%.

Sanko was founded in 1951 and is Japan’s largest producer of plastic materials handling products.

“This collaboration is another step in line with Motherson’s Vision of becoming a globally preferred sustainable solutions provider,” the Motherson states.

“The joint venture will contribute to greater efficiencies in material handling with cost reduction in overall logistics spending.”
