Manitou is expanding its Cande manufacturing facility with a EUR60 million investment to integrate mechanical welding.
The investment in the Cande plant, which is dedicated to manufacturing Manitou’s rough-terrain aerial work platforms, includes the addition of 6,000 sqm of solar panels.
Manitou vice president of aerial work platforms Sylvain Jaguelin says the aim is to increase production capacity while absorbing peaks in activity.
"We will continue to work with our approved suppliers for mechanically welded components,” Jaguelin says.
“Bringing this activity in-house will enable us to reduce the tensions that our supply chain can encounter during surges in activity, which are more and more frequent in a very dynamic platform market.”
Work on the investment will occur through 2024 and 2025, with commissioning scheduled for early 2026.
Manitou plans to hire 100 logisticians and welders in the new section, which will also undertake painting, logistics and machining.
