More than a dozen North American companies and non-profits will exhibit from 8-12 April at a large European trade show for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.

Programs relating to Group Exhibit Hydrogen + Fuel Cells (H2FC) in Hannover will focus the on storage of renewable energy in the form of hydrogen.

A fuel cell can convert the chemical energy from a fuel into electricity that, for forklift applications, can take the place of multiple batteries that must be removed for recharging. Typical fuels include hydrogen, natural gas and methanol.

Most of the exhibitors from North America are based in the United States and are involved in aspects of the supply chain for firms making fuel cells for forklifts and other applications.

Advent Technologies Inc of East Hartford, Connecticut and Athens, Greece will show high-temperature membrane technology including membrane electrode assembly (MEA) and polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) versions.

Air Squared Inc of Broomfield, Colorado has scroll compressors and hybrid hydrogen recirculation pumps for eliminating fuel cell parasitic loading.

ClearEdge Power Inc of Hillsboro, Oregon will show its PureCell System models 5 and 400 for stationsry applications. In February, ClearEdge acquired UTC Power and renamed the business, previously a subsidiary of conglomerate United Technologies Corp.

The Connecticut Hydrogen-Fuel Cell Coalition of East Hartford, Connecticut represents companies in the state's hydrogen and fuel cell industry and supply chain, says Joel Rinebold, director of energy initiatives. The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc handles the coalition's administrative functions.

Dexmet Corp of Wallingford, Connecticut makes precision metal mesh products for the fuel cell industry, including precision-expanded metal foils for fuel cells, hydrogen generation and oxygen generation. A fund of private equity firm Sverica International Management LLC of Boston acquired Dexmet on 1 March.

Engineered Fibers Technology LLC of Shelton, Connecticut supplies Spectracarb-brand carbon paper for applications such as PEM fuel cell gas diffusion layer electrodes.

Giner Inc of Newton, Massachusetts has PEM electrolysers.

Perma Pure LLC of Toms River, New Jersey will demonstrate its fuel cell humidifiers.

Proton OnSite of Wallingford, Connecticut, previously operating as Proton Energy Systems Inc, has FuelGen-brand integrated hydrogen fueling systems and patented PEM electrolysis technology that can produce its H2Go-brand medium-pressure high-purity hydrogen.

Sono-Tek Corp of Milton, New York offers ultrasonic thin-film coating systems for use in production of fuel cells.

Ultrasonic Systems Inc of Haverhill, Massachusetts has high-performance spray coating equipment that is based on patented, nozzle-less ultrasonic spray head technology.

Canada will have representation through the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association and Next Hydrogen Corp. The non-profit association with offices in Vancouver, British Columbia and Ottawa, Ontario represents a majority of the stakeholders in Canada's hydrogen and fuel cell sector.

Next Hydrogen of Mississauga, Ontario will show its alkaline electrolyser cell for on-site hydrogen generation.

Tobias Renz Fair of Berlin organises the 5,000 sqm (54,000 sqft.) H2FC exhibition and 15,000 sqm (162,000 sqft.) outdoor area on behalf of event owner Deutsche Messe AG of Hannover.

More than 130 companies and research institutions from 20 countries are scheduled to participate in the H2FC fair.
