Preliminary investigations by the Ministry’s Workplace Safety and Health Council (WHS Council) revealed that the mast’s locking pins had been removed without first ensuring that the mast was properly secured, the news report says.
The technician was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The death brings the number of workplace accidents in Singapore this year to 11.
The WSH Council says firms involved in forklift repair should have safe work procedures in place for mast disassembly, including steps to control the risk of forklift masts falling onto workers.
