HSE and police are investigating a death

A crew member of a boat docked at Easter Ross harbour has died after being involved in an industrial accident involving a forklift.

The Press and Journal reports that emergency services were called to the incident on the quayside at the newest section of the service base at Invergordon.

It is understood that the crewman, thought to be from the Phillipines, became trapped underneath the forklift.

The 25,378 T Deep Energy pipe-layer vessel is one of the largest of its type.

It is understood that the crewman may have been using the forklift to transport a container prior to the accident.

The report quotes a spokesman saying police were called to Cromarty Firth Port Authority, Invergordon, after receiving a report of an industrial accident involving a forklift.

"Sadly, one man has died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

"A full investigation has been launched as a result of the incident and partner agencies are working closely to assist the police in their inquiry."

It is believed that the HSE is liaising with police.
