Worker dies after forklift incident

Melbourne, Vic

Worksafe Victoria is investigating the death of a worker following an incident involving a forklift at a Fairfield warehouse on Sunday, June 1.

It is understood the 62-year-old man was standing in a metal stillage raised by forklift tines when the stillage tipped and fell about 2.5m to the ground.

The man sustained serious head injuries and died in hospital on Monday, June 2.

NT Worksafe Inspectors attended 2025 Central Careers Expo, which took place at the Sacred Heart Catholic College (OLSH) Sadadeen Campus in Alice Springs last week.

Attended by over 550 students from Years 8 to 12, the event was a great opportunity for young Territorians to not just explore a range of career pathways, but also to learn about the importance of health and safety in this context.

Students who visited the NT Worksafe stand also had the opportunity to take part in interactive learning opportunities.

Nominations open for 2025 Worksafe Awards

Nominations for the 2025 Worksafe Awards, the 36th edition of the annual event, are now open.

Workplaces that have adopted best practices and promoted a safer culture are encouraged to apply, with award categories recognising Victoria’s health and safety representatives (HSRs), excellence in OHS, innovative safety solutions, successful return to work initiatives, and management of psychosocial risks.

WorkSafe Chief Executive Ash West says the awards are both a showcase of workplace safety efforts and a platform to share new approaches to complex hazards.

"This is an opportunity to celebrate the inspiring creativity, care and compassion of Victorian employers whose commitment to workplace health and safety benefits the entire community," says West.
