"Linde Material Handling has delivered the first of its new generation H140D 1401 series heavy forklifts to an Australian customer.

The new H140D, which has a 14 tonne lifting capacity and a maximum lift height of 7000mm, was delivered to the Nickel West division of major resources company, BHP Billiton.

Nickel West is a fully integrated mine to market business. Its Mt Keith operation is located 500 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia and is the world's largest open pit nickel mine.

Ore from the mine is concentrated on site then transported to Kalgoorlie and on to Kwinana for refining.

The H140D joins three other Linde forklifts working at Mt. Keith. It will divide its time working from two major warehouse and maintenance facilities at the mine site.

Part of its role will include loading and unloading eight tonne scrap metal bins from freight trucks, but the majority of its work will be at the mine's workshops.

There it will transport the purpose-built frames which carry heavy engines, torque converters and final drives for the mine's fleet of huge dump trucks.

The new Linde forklift will provide occupational health and safety and work scheduling advantages for the mine staff.

One of the advantages of the Linde H140D is that its routine service intervals are considerably longer than competitors'.

Mt Keith Operations has its own large contingent of maintenance staff who receive Linde technical support for routine maintenance. Any specialised
requirements will be performed by Linde technicians who will fly to the mine.

Like smaller capacity Linde forklifts the H140D incorporates the world renowned Linde high precision hydrostatic drive train that operates without gearbox, clutch, differential or conventional brakes. Power is supplied by an advanced high torque diesel engine with operator control through Linde twin accelerator pedals, providing seamless control of forward and reverse travel and load handling cycles to make this the most nimble and responsive heavy truck in its class.

The Linde H140D is designed for both palletised and pallet less heavy load handling including empty container handling. Modular design of the main structures results in a more compact truck for excellent manoeuvrability and versatility.

Excellent manoeuvrability and safe, precise load handling even in confined areas is ensured by the optimum forward position of the cabin for excellent visibility through the panoramic mast to the fork tips and load.

Superb all-round visibility is provided by the cabin's wraparound front screen, large side windows and glass top panel. The operator is able to work with assured confidence and efficiency, with everything safely in view.
