Misurata Free Zone, the operator of the Port of Misurata in Libya, has hired Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) to oversee the procurement and construction of three ship-to-shore (STS) container gantry cranes.

Under the agreement, HPC will develop the technical specifications for the cranes, review the design phase, supervise the manufacturing stage and monitor the installation and commissioning phase, which includes conducting final acceptance tests.

Misurata Free Zone port general manager Abdulmoula Abolwaifa says: “These advanced ship-to-shore container gantry cranes will enhance our operational capabilities and enable us to meet the growing demands of international trade.

“We are committed to ensuring the best possible service to our customers, and these new cranes will play a crucial role in achieving that objective."

HPC vice president of the Middle East and Africa Lars Greiner says: “The Port of Misurata is a vital hub for trade and we are confident that these advanced gantry cranes will elevate its operational efficiency, ultimately benefiting both the port and the region's economic growth."

The contract, signed in Rotterdam, also commits Misurata Free Zone and HPC to cooperating in other fields of port development.
