Discussion:
United states forklift engineer jobs/recruitment questions

Hi Folks,
Previously posted but just wanted to go over a few questions with you chaps regarding a service engineers role in the USA
1-is there a shortage or too many engineers in the USA and do they recruit from out side the usa or is there no need for them to do this as there is enough skilled labour?
2-Are the skills of a forklift engineer valued there in terms of pay and conditions , is it normal to have health insurance and dental etc and what would be considered a good hourly rate?
3- i have heared a few "horror stories" of a hire and fire them attitude in the USA and that you can walk in one day and be let go on the spot, and was wondering if it is really like this?
I appologise for these questions as I do realise that they could be considered of a personal nature as they involve money etc but if you wouldnt mind replying here or even if you could pop me a email with some information on it that would be fantastic

many thanks.

Hi kevin 30 dollars an hour only converts to about £15,more than we can all earn with the cartels we work for but not a massive amount. But your right about cost of fuel, bills, car tax, poor payrise, government that are only interested in themselves etc, etc, but you would miss good old blighty for now.Give it another couple of years i may join you!!!

Justin summed it up. The average pay is mid 20's per hour in the SE (Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama etc). the cost of living does depend where you live. Pay is very much a factor of your experience and qualifications. Beni's are often negotiable. There is always the risk of you're fired, but as he stated there is always a need for good folks.

there is a serious shortage of truly qualified technicians
yes pay will be dependent upon skill and experience

good pay depends where you move to
here in NY good pay is high 20s to low/mid 30s (US$) an hour plus benefits or a percentage of benefits
but its very expensive to live here

other parts of the country its cheaper to live but the pay is less

and yes
you can be fired on the spot
but thats unlikely if youre good at what you do
and jobs are a dime a dozen for good techs

i have family in england and from what they tell me i should be asking you how it is to come work there lol
