Hyster H60XM:
H60XM Alternator killing battery

Hello,

I've inherited responsibility of an old fork truck, it works reasonably well except it has about a quarter amp current draw on the battery at all times. If I unplug the alternator, the parasitic drain drops to a few milliamps. Somebody has rewired the alternator on this machine, I don't believe it uses the charge indicator at all any longer nor is battery voltage to the internal regulator interrupted by the ignition switch like I would expect.

Does anyone know where I can legally find wiring diagrams for this machine? I see manuals for sale online, but they do not look like legitimate sellers. It is a H60XM with serial number H177B36725Z.

Thank you!!

I am going to have to respectfully disagree. Internal or external regulator, it must be interrupted by the ignition switch to not drain the battery, any battery. The wet cell battery is perfectly fine, so long as it does not have a constant 250mA draw on it. It has been in the truck over three years. I've replaced I don't know how many AGM batteries in old MX5s with wet cells, never had a problem.

I know there is supposed to be a charge indicator on the dash that should be illuminated when the forklift is not running, but it's not.

Guess I'll just rewire it like I know it should be.

This is a common fault with the H60xm and has nothing to do with the alternstir wiring as the rumegulator is built in the alternnator, are you using a standard lead acid battery or a gel battery?? It needs a gel battery if you use lead acid the truck will destroy it in no time
