Raymond EASI REACH:
EASI REACh - Code 5D after VFC replacement

Hi,

I recently troubleshooted an EASI REACH truck with a bad VFC card.

I ordered a new VFC card and EPROM from RAYMOND, and installed it on the truck.

I immediately got an error code, 5D.

I tried this new VFC and EPROM on other known working trucks, and I get the same thing, code 5D.

Does anyone know what code 5D relates to? I have read online it can be associated with the SMARTi system, however none of the trucks I've tested this on are SMARTi equipped.

Thanks,
jake

hello, i have an R40TT truck with a 2E and 5D showing on display. 2D refers to 2e - traction motor temperature out of range and after reading your posts i have a better idea what code 5D is. is this common? to have multiple error codes displayed? also which error code should i troubleshoot first?

regards
Jay

UPDATE: 05/11/2017
took care of 2E issue. had VFC tested at FSIP and tested good. truck turns on, completes self test, then displays 5D. all hydraulic functions work. however, i'm limited to 1mph on FWD/REV. i don't see a cable from the VFC to Smarti and i tried about 20 different variations of password and can't access config menu. looking for help..willing to trade.

regards
jay

Hi Fredz,

Thanks for your help, it definitely pointed me in the right direction!

I went into the config again, and under ELEC KEY (electronic key) I set a new key, 0.

Disabled SMARTi, got that superword prompt again, this time I entered 0 (my ELEC KEY i just setup) and the truck kicked into SELF TEST and is now running!

Thanks again guys! Advice was invaluable on this one!

ok I just tried it on my order picker because the smarti function is not even on our reach trucks and I enable smartI and gave myself a code 5D went back and selftest OK but I do remember last time we had our dealer I think there is a key you have to press in order for the truck to do the self test try 0 on top after you disabled the function...is just matter of getting the truck to selftest

What I'm saying is that after disabling SMARTi, I will quit the menu like normally, and instead of it reaching the SELF TEST, it returns to the superword entry screen. If I enter the code, I am back in the main menu.]

If I cycle the truck using the key switch, I just return to the superword entry screen, opposed to truck kicking into SELF TEST and then start. If I enter the superword, I'm just back in the main config menu. If i quit out from this menu, I'm just returned to the superword prompt again.

ok when you disabled and save changes it says ok...you're saying you get stuck at the superword screen menu...just press the left arrow key to get out....then try cycle key switch.

Hi guys,

Ok so heres an update on the problem.

I'll go into the config menu,

DISABLE SMARTi,

confirm changes, Y.

QUIT config. Screen shows DONE. Here the truck should start.

But here I get stuck at the superword entry screen. If I enter the code, I just end up back in the config menu. If i quit the menu again, I just go in circles. The truck doesn't start/enter self test.

If I shut off the truck through key switch, and try to start it, same thing. It enters the superword entry prompt to get me into the menu, but doesn't perform a SELF TEST or attempt to start the truck.

It's only when I go back into the MENU, and ENABLE SMARTi, save changes, and restart the truck, am I able to get the truck to SELF TEST and start. At this point of course, I have error code 5D again.

So to sum it up.

- Not a SMARTi equipped truck.
- SMARTi disabled in the menu, SELF TEST won't run, truck won't start.
- SMARTI enabled in the menu, SELF TEST runs, truck starts but inoperable with error code 5D.

Any help?

Regards,

Hi,

Yes I ran the LEARN function after the install.

Also, disabling SMARTI in the menu is one of the first things I tried, and I don't believed it worked, truck wouldn't start/perform SELF TEST... but I will give your advice another try tomorrow when I'm at work.

Really appreciate the info so far guys!

Fred is correct.

just go into the superword.

scroll to the Smarti menu,
select, then go to disable.

save changes.. Y (obviously)

exit super word..

re-key should be gone.

Have you already ran "Learn?"

I believe you need to disable SMARTi on the display. (I might be wrong) I'm just taking a wild guess give it a try...
