FACT OF THE WEEK
The word "dinkum" originates from a Chinese dialect widely spoken at the Australian goldfields: "din" and "kum" loosely translate as "true gold". Early Chinese goldminers would answer the question "Are you finding a fair amount of gold?" with "Fair dinkum". Over time the expression has become a positive response to a good news story.
