Forklifts that drive themselves are not new, but technology is opening up possibilities that were once in the realm of science fiction. As we report this week, forklifts can now communicate with each other and with complex logistics systems, monitor their own performance and schedule maintenance and repairs, keep an eye on other bits of equipment and infrastructure, and collect data to enhance logistics operations in ways not previously possible.
And all of this technology is available today - not just in prototypes, but in off-the-shelf products and solutions.
It makes you wonder if there will be any need for people in the near future?
