STILL LANDS BIG FOOD GROUP DEAL DEESIDE, United Kingdom Big Food
Group has chosen Still to supply hundreds of forklifts
to its Iceland Foods and Booker Cash & Carry
distribution centres throughout the UK.
The
contract, which a Still spokesman described as
"substantial" in value, includes five years of on-site
maintenance. The first delivery, of 357 new Still
forklifts, includes FM reach trucks, CS order pickers,
EGU-S pallet trucks and R70 counterbalance
forklifts.
The Still spokesman said 68 forklifts

reach trucks would be fitted with comfort cabs for
driver protection in cold conditions.

CROWN CROWNED FOR DESIGNS NEW BREMEN, OH, United States Crown
Equipment Corporation has been ranked third in two
design category rankings, prepared by German consultancy
design.net AG.
The firms latest rankings, which
rate the 100 best service companies and manufacturers in
industrial design, recognised Crown in the special use
vehicles and manufacturers categories.
Crown
design centre vice-president Mike Gallagher said he was
honoured by the awards, which ranked the company higher
than Audi, Jaguar and Porsche.
"The design of
each Crown product begins where it ends - in the minds
and hands of our customers. This method of design is a
Crown distinction," he said.
The design.net
rankings have, over their six years in existence, become
a benchmark for international design competence. The
ratings are based on an evaluation of 19 federal and
state-organised German design competitions.

JLG: TELEHANDLER SALES INCREASE McCONNELLSBURG, PA, United
States JLG Industries sold more telehandlers but
reported less aerial work platform sales revenue in the
third quarter ended April 30.
JLG reported
USD34.8 million in third-quarter telehandler sales,
compared to USD20.6 million in last years comparable
period.
The aerial work platforms business, which
is a larger product group than telehandlers, suffered
with quarterly sales of USD116.1 million, compared to
USD124.5 million last year.
JLG more than doubled
its quarterly profit to USD2.2 million compared with
USD836,000 in the same quarter last year. Group sales
fell slightly to USD205.8 million from USD208.7 million
in the third quarter of 2002.
JLG chairman Bill
Lasky said the European equipment rentals industry,
where JLG ranked third, was "struggling" due to
crowding.
"We are watching our exposure carefully
(and) holding the line on pricing, even as some
competitors have lowered them. We intend to hold the
line on Euro pricing. We will walk away from deals with
unacceptable returns," he said.
Mr Lasky said JLG
was pursuing cost reduction strategies, and projected
gross savings of USD36.8 million this fiscal
year.

TOYOTA LENDS A LIFT FOR WORLD RECORD MANCHESTER, United Kingdom Forklifts
carry out all sorts of important jobs, but one in the UK
really took the cake (or sandwich, in this
case).
When UK food companies Asda and Hazlewood
Foods set an official record for creating the worlds
biggest sandwich last month, Toyota played a
part.
The two-tonne sandwich, filled with tuna
and sweet corn, was built at an Asda store near
Manchester. Regional Toyota distributor Impact supplied
a 7FBMF45 forklift to lift it.
Impact managing
director Andrew McMillan said Hazlewood approached the
company for help.
"Its not every day were asked
to supply a forklift for a giant sandwich. It was a
pleasure to help in the quest for the world record," he
said.
Reports of the world record success
featured in national newspapers and on television. After
the judging, the sandwich was cut and distributed to the
homeless.
