Many companies have taken a fresh approach to
their marketing by unleashing their business onto the
Forkliftaction.com community, with staggering
results. Below is an extract from a letter, forwarded to
us, from a happy advertiser to an industry colleague who was
thinking about a Forkliftaction.com campaign: "...In the
past, to make lift truck distributors aware of our shrink
protective packaging, we advertised in several US journals. We
even attended several manufacturer fairs, and tried direct
mail. I've found that we've received more business and
interest through Forkliftaction.com than all the above, and in
less time and money! It's even opened doors to some OEMs we
had approached at other times without success. Weve even
gotten some interest from overseas. It seems
Forkliftaction.com reaches a lot of people in the wider
material handling business and covers a lot of
ground..." Peter Cammisa, Sales Manager, CT

JUNGHEINRICH: SALES DOWN, PROFITS UP HAMBURG, Germany Jungheinrich AG
ended 2002 on a positive profit note, despite selling
less forklifts.
Group sales decreased 4.8 percent
from EUR1.551 billion (USD1.67 billion) to EUR1.476
billion (USD1.59 billion) in the year to December 31,
but net income rose 38.5 percent to EUR54 million
(USD54.17 million), compared to EUR39 million (USD42
million) in 2001.
Jungheinrich blamed the sales
deflation on a decline in market volume for the
industrial truck industry in Europe.
At the end
of 2002, Jungheinrich employed 9,248, 40 less than in
2001, of whom 4,821 (52.1 percent) worked outside
Germany. While the continued expansion of direct sales
in Germany and abroad led to the appointment of new
engineers and technical consultants, the production,
administration and service workforces
decreased.
Jungheinrich chairman Cletus von
Pichler said it was difficult to predict the companys
expected performance for 2003, due to continued economic
uncertainty.
We are building on a significant
stabilisation of market volume within our branch of the
industry in Europe, he said.
Taking this into
account, and relying on our expanded direct sales
network, we expect an increase in the number of orders
and improved sales during the year.

DIAL IN TO FLEET MANAGEMENT LEICESTER, United Kingdom A new
invention from Transmon Engineering means fleet managers
can now access vital fleet data from anywhere in the
world.
Transmon has refined its Advanced Truck
Management System (ATMS) to include GSM or RF options,
which means users can access information on forklift
use, performance or damage through their computer or
mobile phone.
The two-way system allows the user
to dial into the system or receive data at regular
intervals.
Transmon national accounts manager
Paul Sercombe said the system allowed incredible
control over a fleet.
Getting the fleet
operating at its peak performance means whole-life costs
are reduced, as are service costs. Site safety gains
tremendously from speed limiting, driver access and
crash detection features, he said.
Crash
detection monitors a 4G impact, allowing greater
accountability and traceability of major incidents while
engine performance is regulated through oil pressure and
coolant temperature monitoring, direction inhibitor and
anti hi-rev take, together with other key
sensors.
With more fleet deals becoming
pan-European in nature, it makes sense to offer a highly
adaptable system that can be accessed from anywhere, Mr
Sercombe said.

FORKLIFT SAVES THE DAY IN FACTORY BLAZE CALNE, United States A builder has
been hailed a hero after using a forklift to clear the
entrance to a blazing factory for fire
fighters.
John Butler, 64, raced into action
after fire fighters arrived at the derelict Kam Circuits
Factory last Thursday.
Mr Butler, whose yard is
next door, said it was apparent materials blocking the
entrance to the factory would hamper fire fighters, a
Newsquest report said.
I wasn't nervous. I
haven't got the most up-to-date forklift, but it did the
job, he said.
It took Mr Butler 10 minutes to
get his forklift out of the yard and remove the
blockage, and the blaze was extinguished 10 minutes
later. It was not revealed what type of forklift Mr
Butler used.
Leading fire fighter Rob Allen said
the job would have taken much longer, and the blaze
could have damaged neighbouring properties, without Mr
Butlers help.
He saved us a lot of hard work
and time. It was lucky, very lucky, he said.
