NEW TELEHANDLER HITS THE WORLD STAGE  THIENE, Italy French platform
manufacturer Pinguely-Haulotte has partnered with
Breganze, Italy-based agricultural manufacturer Faresin
to produce a new range of telehandlers.
Faresin
Haulotte Spa, to be headquartered in Thiene, Italy, will
be 60-40 percent owned by Faresin and Pinguely-Haulotte
respectively, and gives the companies a platform to
enter the EUR2 billion (USD2.15 billion) telehandler
market.
Faresin-Haulotte aims to command 10
percent of the world market in five years, which means
taking sales from entrenched players like JCB, Terex,
JLG and Manitou.
The Top Lift range, to be
launched worldwide early this year, will be powered by
an Iveco 79.5 kW four-cylinder turbo diesel. The range
will feature lift heights from 7.3 metres to 17 metres,
and have varying capacities from three to four
tonnes.
The range will be available with options,
including side shift, a bucket, transverse hydraulic
chassis levelling and closed-circuit video
control.
Established in 1970, Faresin
manufactures and exports agricultural machinery,
components for concrete form work and telescopic
handlers.
Pinguely-Haulotte, based in LHorme,
France, produces vertical mast platforms, scissor
platforms, and articulated and telescopic jib platforms.
The company achieved EUR206.8 million (USD222.1 million)
in sales in 2002.

ACQUISITIONS CREATE TEXAN MEGA-DEALER  WACO, United States Equipment Depot
has acquired two dealerships, Clarklift of Fort Worth
and Powr-Lift of Dallas, to become one of the largest
materials handling companies in Texas.
Equipment
Depot now has more than 450 employees, including 240
service technicians, seven facilities, and annual
revenue of more than USD100 million. The acquisition
price was not released.
Former owners Vern Bailey
(Clarklift) and Mel Robinson (Powr-Lift) would continue
to manage the acquired companies, an Equipment Depot
statement said.
Clarklift, founded in 1979, was
dealing in Clark, Mitsubishi and Linde forklifts, and
Mustang skid-steers. Powr-Lift represented Clark, Drexel
and Linde forklifts.
"These acquisitions extend
our reach in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, one of the
top forklift markets in the USA," said Equipment Depot
president Don Moes. "We will now have more than 10,000
forklifts under routine service contracts and 875
forklifts in our short-term rental
fleets."
Equipment Depot, founded in 1975 as
Central Texas Clarklift, is a dealer for Caterpillar,
Clark, Daewoo, Drexel, Linde and Mitsubishi forklifts,
and Mobile pallet jacks.

JLG TRANSFORMER HITS THE STREETS  ANAHEIM, United States JLG
Industries Inc has launched a Transformer telehandler
and a line of Triple-L trailers at the annual American
Rental Association (ARA) trade show, held from February
11 to 13 in Anaheim, California.
The ARA, which
also hosted its 47th annual convention, chose JLGs
Transformer machine as a finalist in the events new
product premiere on February 10. The winner was not
announced before this issue of Forkliftaction.com News
was published.
"JLGs innovative products have
consistently been honoured with industry-leading
recognition," said JLG sales, marketing & customer
support senior vice president Craig Paylor.
The
Transformer is a telehandler that an operator can
convert to an aerial work platform in less than 10
minutes. In aerial mode, the machine has a lift capacity
of 2,000 pounds (900 kilograms) and operates with full
platform control and drive capability. As a fully
functional telehandler, the machine has a capacity of
6,600 pounds (three tonnes).
The trailer line
includes 20 models in three styles - flat bed, utility
or enclosed - and has a Power Deck hydraulic system to
lower the trailer to ground level.
JLG, based in
McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, has manufacturing sites in
the USA and Belgium, and sales and service locations in
six continents.

MOVERS & SHAKERS  NEW BREMEN, United States Crown
Equipment Corporation has appointed Jim Dicke III (pictured)
as its replacement for retiring president Jim Dicke
II.
Mr Dicke III, who had been executive vice
president since 2000, is the fourth generation of the
Dicke family, which owns Crown, to serve as
president.
Jim Dicke II, Crowns president since
1980, would remain in the business as chairman and chief
executive.
Crown, the fifth-largest materials
handling manufacturer in the world, marks its 58th year
of operation this year.
COMBILIFT: CADDEN
GOES WEST
MONAGHAN, Ireland - Combilift UK
product manager Tommy Cadden (pictured)
has moved to the USA to head the companys US sales
network.
Mr Cadden helped establish Combilifts
UK dealership network, which has now sold more than 350
Combilift machines. Sales of at least 250 units are
predicted this year.
Combilift has appointed Roy
Redman as the new UK product manager and Rod Mattock as
national accounts manager, responsible for supporting UK
customers.

FORKLIFT FEATURES IN BIZARRE ELEPHANT
RESCUE  LOS ANGELES, United States What do
you do when an 8,000 pound (3.6 tonnes) female in her
mid-40s gets stuck in a pond?
That was the
dilemma facing the Los Angeles Fire Department when
Tara, an elephant at the Los Angeles Zoo, found herself
unable to stand up after lying down in a pond on
February 7.
The Los Angeles Times said
firefighters and handlers spent almost three hours
positioning straps around the elephant before lifting
her with a tow truck, a crane and a forklift. Tara was
unhurt.
