COMBILIFT EXPANDS UK DEALER NETWORK LONDON, United Kingdom Combilift
will appoint up to six new dealers in the United Kingdom
in the next 18 months after seeing sales double there
this year.
Combilift, a pioneering manufacturer
of multi-directional long loaders, expects to sell
between 160 and 180 machines in the United Kingdom this
year, and has a sales target of 280 for 2003.
The
company has increased its United Kingdom network from
three to eight dealers in the past 18 months, and says
it has had a huge amount of interest from prospective
dealers.
"We aren't rushing into agreements
because we want to ensure we form close, long-term
relationships," said Combilift United Kingdom sales and
product manager Tommy Cadden. "We are fast becoming the
leading supplier of long load and semi-long load
handling equipment in the UK."
The United Kingdom
is Combilifts priority market, accounting for up to 30
percent of production at its factory in Clontibret, in
the Republic of Ireland. It exports to 34 other markets,
with a particular focus on the USA and
Europe.
The engine-driven Combilift has a
four-way steering system that allows sideways travel
with long loads. It is popular with builders and timber
merchants, plastic and aluminum extrusion companies,
timber frame manufacturers and steel
distributors.
Mr Cadden denied Combilift would
suffer should other manufacturers produce similar
designs.
"Our focus now is to ensure our products
remain ahead of the rest of the market," he
said.

JAPANESE FORKLIFT SALES, EXPORTS DROP, SAYS
REPORT TOKYO, Japan Exports and domestic
forklift sales in Japan dropped 5.3 percent between
April and September 2002 to 48,075 units, according to
the latest Japan Industrial Vehicles Association (JIVA)
report.

down 9.6 percent on the same period in 2001, while
exports stood at 15,579, up five percent from last year,
a Japanese News Digest report said. Exports rose due to
a steady increase in engine-powered forklift exports
since April this year.
Between April and
September, domestic sales and exports of battery-powered
forklifts stood at 18,983 units, down 9.8 percent from
2001, and at 29,092 units for engine-powered forklifts,

LEX HARVEY CUTS FLEET SIZE AND COSTS FOR
CIBA COVENTRY, United Kingdom Ciba
Specialty Chemicals has outsourced materials handling
requirements at its Bradford site to Lex Harvey in a
five-year agreement.
Fifty-three forklifts,
including electric, diesel counterbalance and narrow
aisle machines, have been provided on inclusive
maintenance contract hire. The new forklifts replace an
ageing 68-forklift fleet, which Ciba owned and
maintained.
Ciba Bradford warehouse manager John
Scourfield said meeting future health and safety
legislation was a factor in awarding the
contract.
Lex Harvey has reduced the size of the
fleet and driven down our long-term costs. We are
therefore very pleased with the contract, he
said.
Four Lex Harvey personnel monitor key
performance indicators on-site to ensure continuity at
Cibas 24-hour operation. Monthly site reviews support
an ongoing improvement strategy.
Because volatile
chemicals are used in Cibas production process,
forklifts used in Zone 2 areas are fitted with Pyroban
engine safety systems to comply with new European Union
directives which come into force next July.
