TVH BUYS MAJORITY SHAREHOLDING IN QFS
AUSTRALIA BRISBANE, Australia TVH Forklift
Parts NV SA has bought a 75 percent shareholding in QFS
Australia, an Australian forklift parts supply company
servicing customers in Asia-Pacific, Europe, the USA and
the United Kingdom.
The purchase price was not
released.
QFS general manager Steve Cunliffe said
the acquisition substantially broadened the companys
presence and product offering in the Asia-Pacific
region. The sale gives QFS, which deals predominantly in
Japanese forklift spares, access to TVHs more than
270,000 line items covering more than 50 forklift
brands.
TVHs 75 percent shareholding was
acquired from QFS founder Branko Brkic, who has since
retired from the business. Mr Brkic founded QFS with one
location in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1985, and had grown
the company to five locations Australia-wide, Mr
Cunliffe said.
I cannot think of a better
company to be investing in our business. To attract such
an investment from a major global player in TVH is real
recognition of the success QFS has enjoyed in the world
market, he said.
A TVH spokesperson said the QFS
shareholding was an attractive opportunity and in line
with the companys growth strategy.
The
synergies gained through this acquisition are immediate
and obvious for both companies. QFS is a solid business
with good people as a foundation, so the investment
makes good sense for TVH, he said.

KALMAR OPENS PARTS CENTRE IN FRANCE METZ, France Kalmar Industries has
opened a European spare parts distribution centre to
provide better service for central and southern European
customers.
The centre, which opened in August,
means dealers can now access stock lists via the
internet and have parts sent overnight by road to reach
most of Europe within 24 hours.
The facility will
be managed by CAT Logistics, a subsidiary of Caterpillar
Inc in the USA. The Kalmar business joins the same
warehouse as Hiab AB and another CAT Logistics client,
Electrolux.
Kalmar materials management
vice-president Hans Jansson said central and southern
Europe was a key market for Kalmar, with more than 5000
machines operating in the area.
"We thought it
necessary to create a new distribution centre in the
locality, which could respond quickly to the spare parts
requirements of customers based there," he
said.

STANDARD PARTS FOR NEW-GEN HYSTER
FORKLIFTS DUBLIN, Ireland Following the
launch of the S1.0 - S1.6 stacker series in 2001, Hyster
has upgraded three more forklifts to bring them in line
with its range of new-generation machines.
The
company has upgraded the S1.2S and S1.5S stacker
forklifts, the P.20S pallet truck and the RP2.0N rider
pallet truck. A new double pallet stacker, the P2.0SD,
has also been introduced.
Hyster Europe warehouse
product manager Tony Mason said while the model
additions offered users different solutions for
different applications, all had standard features, such
as a new tiller head, a combi-controller and an
independent drive motor.
"This is a major step
forward for warehouse trucks. For the first time it
gives users an equipment standard against which they can
invest for the future, knowing that it will be common to
new Hyster warehouse equipment as it is introduced," he
said.

AIRTRAX PATENTS ITS OMNI-DIRECTIONAL
WHEEL HAMMONTON, United States Airtrax
Corporation has been granted patents for its
revolutionary omni-wheel technology.
Airtrax
vice-president and principal inventor Barney Harris said
the patents, applied for in April 2000, were for a
design that deviated from the irregular profile of other
omni-directional wheels, which meant the vehicles had
poor load capacity and instability at high
speeds.
Omni wheels incorporating Airtraxs
patented technology will ride smoother and can therefore
operate at higher speeds, (with) a far greater load
capacity, Mr Harris said.
Airtrax president
Peter Amico said the company was in the final
development stages of its ATX Series omni-directional
forklift, with prototypes currently in final testing.
The ATX-3000 will sell at prices very competitive with
any forklift on the market today," he said.
A
three-minute video showing the ATX-Series forklift in
action can be seen at the Airtrax website.

FINNING CATS FOR HYUNDAI RIGS OSLO, Norway Finning (UK) has
secured a contract to supply four Caterpillar forklifts
to Hyundai Heavy Industries operation on the Maersk XL1
and XL2 oil-drilling platforms off the coast of
Norway.
Two Cat EP30K four-wheel electric
forklifts and two Cat DP30K diesel forklifts were

Pyroban to work in zone two hazardous areas and to meet
European Union laws, according to a Petroleum Review
report.
The forklifts were fitted with Pyroban's
new System 5000D, which uses active gas detection for
diesel engine safety, supported by mechanical protection
measures, such as temperature limitation.

JUDGE DROPS FORKLIFT ASSAULT SUIT HILLSBORO, United States A
Washington County judge has dismissed a USD1 million
lawsuit that accused the managers of a furniture store
of strapping a woman to a forklift and taking her on a
wild ride.
Judy Soucy, 59, said she was
traumatised for life when she was forced to stand on a
rickety, teetering forklift as it moved through the
warehouse of Paul Schatz Furniture, a report in The
Oregonian said.
She said she was sent to retrieve
a sofa and chairs from warehouse racks more than 30 feet
(nine metres) high. She sued for USD1,039,500, claiming
damages for assault, battery and emotional
distress.
The defendants said Ms Soucy
volunteered to ride the forklift and was safely
restrained, but she claimed she was upset after being
strapped, in high heels, to an order picker against her
will, lurching forward and back through the warehouse
and being lifted and lowered.
Lawyers for the
defence said Ms Soucy did not complain to her bosses or
co-workers about the incident, but had told another
supervisor, "I had some fun yesterday, I got to ride on
the platform".
Judge Suzanne Upton threw out the
case after learning a lawyer for Ms Soucy withheld
information from the defence.
