In the world of material handling, the transition from a stable warehouse floor to the unpredictable terrain of a remote construction site or a desert oil field is where standard equipment often fails. For operators in regions like the Middle East, "all-terrain" isn't just a marketing term—it is a survival requirement. SOCMA’s latest series of Rough Terrain Forklifts, ranging from 2.5 to 10 tons, has been engineered to bridge this gap, providing a robust solution for the world’s most unforgiving landscapes.

Engineering for the Extremes: The All-Terrain Solution

The SOCMA rough terrain forklift is specialized equipment designed specifically for harsh and challenging conditions, excelling on muddy, uneven, sloped, and loose surfaces.

1)   Superior Ground Clearance: To prevent underbody contact with terrain obstacles, the 10-ton series (HNFY100) features a substantial 380mm chassis ground clearance.

2)   High-Traction Tire Technology: The machines are equipped with rugged, deep-tread off-road tires with a wide-tread design that delivers superior ground adaptability and stability.

3)   Unrivaled Gradeability: The 2.5-ton and 3.5-ton 4WD models boast a maximum gradeability of 45% to 50%, allowing them to navigate steep inclines that would stop standard forklifts in their tracks.

4)   Dynamic Traction Management: Operators can utilize a switchable 2WD/4WD transmission to balance higher travel speeds with maximum off-road performance. For extreme loss of traction, a manual differential lock prevents wheel spin by locking the differential when one wheel loses grip.

Field-Proven: The Middle East Success Story

SOCMA recently completed a significant export of these units to the Middle East, a region that serves as the ultimate proving ground for industrial machinery. The harsh desert environment demands specific optimizations that SOCMA has integrated into its core design.

1)   Advanced Cooling Systems: To combat ambient temperatures that can exceed 50°C, SOCMA utilizes an oversized radiator and independent cooling circuits for transmission and hydraulic oil. An engine-mounted air-to-air intercooler further improves intake efficiency and power output.

2)   High-Torque Performance: The 10-ton series is powered by the QSB4.5-C130 engine, which maintains strong performance reserves in challenging terrains, delivering 20% more power than standard forklifts of equivalent capacity.

3)   Sand and Dust Protection: A newly designed air filter element and an optimized intake/exhaust system protect the engine from fine silica dust, ensuring long-term reliability in arid conditions.

Durability and Operator Productivity

In remote sites, downtime is the enemy of ROI. SOCMA has prioritized both the longevity of the machine and the endurance of the operator.

1)   Braking and Safety: The units feature full-enclosed, maintenance-free multi-disc wet brakes that prevent contamination, alongside a wet-drive axle designed to withstand heavy impact loads.

2)   Ergonomic Efficiency: The full-vision cab with skylight is equipped with a heating and AC system as standard, protecting the operator from dust and extreme weather. Pilot hydraulic control levers and a comfortable suspension seat minimize fatigue during long shifts.

3)   Service Accessibility: For rapid field maintenance, SOCMA features a tilting cab and hood design, allowing the engine compartment to open at a large angle for easy access to core components.

Whether navigating the loose sands of a Saudi Arabian infrastructure project or the muddy gradients of a remote mining site, SOCMA’s rough terrain forklifts provide the power and reliability required to keep operations moving.
