Unirrol has deployed AGVs for Argentina's postal serviceMaterials and cargo handling manufacturer and distributor Unirrol SA has completed the installation of a fleet of 240 autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) at the robotic sorting plant of the Argentinian postal service, Correo Argentino.
The sorting plant, located in Monte Grande, now has a fleet of AGVs with proprietary software, artificial intelligence integration and a processing capacity of up to 9,000 packages per hour, tripling previous capacity.
It has been designed to move parcels of small and medium sizes, up to 5kg.
“This development makes Correo Argentino the first postal operator in Latin America to implement a robotic sorting system and marks the formal start of its comprehensive automation plan by 2026,” Unirrol SA states.
The 240 AGVs operate over a space of 1,180sqm with 13 induction stations which support a continuous flow, and 130 sorting outputs which optimise times and minimise the margin of error, Correo Argentino states.
“We are a technology company specialised in logistics,” adds president and CEO of Correo Argentino, Camilo Baldini.
“We incorporate innovative solutions that follow global standards and apply them on our greatest strength: our network and unique territoriality.”
Correo Argentino plans to completely automate its Monte Grande plant incorporating a number of new technologies including a second sorter for parcels up to 30kg, more AGVs for robotised container movement, and RFID technology for real-time tracking of parcels and containers.
