It’s About Stability, Not Efficiency
During MODEX in the U.S., one customer asked me a question that really stayed with me. He said, “If we don’t change anything right now, how many more years can this factory realistically keep running like this?”
What struck me was that he wasn’t really asking about automation anymore. He was questioning whether their current operating system could still support future business. Then he described a very specific situation inside their factory. They had a repetitive material flow from the warehouse to the production line. The route itself was fixed and predictable, but the problem was no longer efficiency. The problem was stability.
During the day shift they could still manage, but night shifts had become extremely difficult. Temporary workers came and left quickly, training cycles were getting longer, and experienced workers were becoming exhausted.
He told me, “We’re no longer worried about being slow. We’re worried that if this process breaks, the entire line stops.”
This actually aligns very closely with the MHI 2026 report. Companies are no longer investing in automation simply to become “more advanced.” The real drivers are operational stability, labor uncertainty, and the ability to handle changing demand. In other words, the conversation is shifting from efficiency to resilience.
So when SEER Robotics faces this kind of scenario, the approach is usually not to rebuild the entire factory from day one. Instead, the first step is identifying the most critical and unstable workflow that is still highly standardized.
For example, warehouse-to-line transportation. SEER Robotics would typically preserve the customer’s existing WMS, PLC structure, and operational logic, while separating task triggering from execution. The original system still generates the task, but robots take over the execution.

That means the customer doesn’t need to redesign the entire operation, while a highly labor-dependent process becomes a stable system-driven execution unit.
And honestly, that’s the real issue many U.S. factories are facing right now. Not low efficiency. Unstable operations. Demand changes faster, labor becomes less predictable, but critical workflows still rely heavily on people.
So factory transformation today is not really about how advanced automation is. It’s about whether you can stabilize the most critical part of your operation first.
And this approach also matches what MHI talks about in the report: companies are increasingly prioritizing controlled ROI and phased deployment instead of large-scale all-at-once transformation.
And to be clear, this is usually not about replacing people.
In many factories, the real challenge is that critical operations rely too heavily on unstable labor structures and repetitive manual execution.
The goal of automation is often to reduce operational fragility, stabilize production, and allow people to focus on work that creates more value.
