Forklifts sold via auction
Thursday, 24 Apr 2008 ( #357 ) - BRISBANE, Queensland, Australia
Local News Story
A number of forklifts, including wrecks and spare parts, from the liquidated Independent Forklift Services (IFS) were sold at an auction held at the company’s old premises in Sumner Park, Brisbane by Grays last week. It is believed total sales reached around AUD250,000.

Director Roger Postle of PPB (Qld), administrator of IFS, tells Forkliftaction.com News that 100% of the items on auction were sold, at "better than expected" prices.

He adds that proceeds from the sale will be directed to the secured creditors, with the balance being distributed to the administration, thus closing the chapter on IFS and its forklift assets.

Also this month, online auctions of forklifts have proved the viability of this relatively new sales channel.

Over a hundred forklifts from Powerlift (Nissan), Australia’s importer and distributor of the Nissan forklift range, went under the hammer via GraysOnline – the first time that the company has tried this method.

Steven Stewart, general manager, branch and dealer operations, tells Forkliftaction.com News that he was satisfied with the sales achieved, with over 80% sold.

He says the experience was a generally positive one, with overall prices in line with pre-sale expectations, adding that the company will use this sales channel again in future.

Another satisfied customer is United Equipment which auctioned off around 130 forklifts, listed as ‘surplus to requirement’, in an online auction from 26 March to 3 April.

CEO David Maxwell tells Forkliftaction.com News that he was satisfied with the sales achieved, with 100% of the items sold. However, the prices achieved were below expectation.

Maxwell points at the large volume of auction stock offered recently as the major reason for prices not reaching the levels they enjoyed 12 months ago.
