The accident scene
A 62-year-old worker was in a serious condition in hospital following an accident at Chestnut Building Centres in Wavertree.

The employee suffered multiple injuries including fractured ribs and sternum.

It was initially believed that the injured man had been hit by the forklift, but it has been confirmed he was driving it at the time of the incident.

It appears that the worker was loading sand onto a lorry when the forklift he was operating keeled over.

Police interviewed witnesses and an investigation is continuing.
