Manitou's new Brazilian plant
French all-terrain materials handling equipment manufacturer Manitou has opened a new production facility in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo, Brazil. This move reflects the international ambitions of Manitou group, which is seeking to strengthen its presence in Latin America and increase its marketshare.
The company has been selling Manitou products in Brazil since 2008, working with dealers and a regional office in the country.
In 2014, the company undertook detailed analysis of the Brazilian market and added the Gehl and Mustang brands. Since then, Manitou has identified an opportunity to invest in Brazil, and began its expansion project in the market with the construction of the factory in Vinhedo.
The first plant in Latin America has created more than 300 direct and indirect jobs.
"We want to have a sustainable presence in Brazil," says president and CEO Michel Denis. "This current market (is encountering) difficulties, but we are really confident for the future. It will take time, but our group will be present when we ( have a) favourable economic situation."
"Brazil is a very important country for Manitou group, as we see great growth potential here," says Marcelo Bracco, general manager of Manitou Group in Brazil, who sees opportunities in mining, construction, industry and agriculture.
Brazil is Manitou's first production location outside Europe and the United States.
