BodyGuard® i-Tag system uses the latest technology to significantly reduce the risk of collision between moving vehicles and pedestrians in the workplace. The system helps to overcome typical risk caused by factors such as driver inattention, poor visibility and worker non-compliance with exclusion areas around vehicles. BodyGuard® i-Tag makes the workplace safer by increasing awareness when people are too close to a vehicle. The system sets up an invisible exclusion zone around the vehicle, providing an audible (siren followed by "Look Out! Person near you") and visual warning alert to the oper-ator when someone is detected within the programmable zone and optional vibration alert for pedestrian. This creates an opportunity for the driver and pedestrian to take appropriate action to avoid an incident.

The BodyGuard® i-Tag system consists of the following items:

i-Tag cab alert unit
i-TAG CAB ALERT UNIT

The Cab Alert unit processes Tag and/or vehicle detection information from the Sensor units, providing both visual (high visibility LED indica-tion) and an audible alarm for the driver (Siren followed by nature of risk "Look out! Person near you"). When both front and rear sensors are fitted, the unit will advise whether object was detected at the front or rear of the vehicle. The audible alert volume is adjustable, (plenty of volume for noisy environments). The Cab Alert unit stores the last 6000 Tag and/or vehicle detection events along with all the system diagnostic messages. System exclusion zone size, speaker volume and history log management are performed using Bluetooth link to smart device. (Configuration kit with smart device available shown on last page of this document). The battery condition of the Tags is also stored along with each detection record. Regular use of the history log data enables Tags with low battery to be identified and scheduled for battery replacement.

The from panel "Mute" silences the speaker temporarily, enabling driver to talk with a pedestrian. The mute automatically resets when the pedestrian moves away or another pedestrian enters the zone. The system operates at 12V/24V (voltage reducer available up to 90V DC).

i-Tag sensor unit/s
i-Tag SENSOR UNIT/S

There are 2 types of sensor available:
  1. Tag Sensor (detects personnel Tags within detection zone up to 10m)
  2. Vehicle Sensor (detects other vehicles within detection zone up to 50m)
The sensor unit detects pedestrian Tags and/or other vehicles within the detection zone. Sensors are constructed from heavy duty fiberglass reinforced polycarbonate (approx. 5mm thick). To detect pedestrians, the system must be fitted with at least 1 Tag sensor. To detect vehicles, the system must be fitted with at least 1 vehicle sensor. (The vehicle sensor will detect any other vehicle fitted with a vehicle sensor).

Note: Any vehicles fitted with vehicle sensor can also be detected by Orbit’s "Zone Alert" system. This system is used to control warning devices in an area when a vehicle is detected within that area (refer to Orbit "Zone Alert" document for details).

IP67 waterproof, vibration proof, UV protected. Sensor units are supplied with 5m connection cable and Connectors.

Mounting options include magnetic mount bracket, directly bolted to vehicle or 360 degree swivel mount. Smaller vehicles typical require a single sensor unit, larger vehicles are normally fitted with front and rear sensor units. The sensor units connect to the Cab Alert unit by supplied 4-core cable and connectors.

Personal Tag Unit

The Personal Tag device ("Tag") is a small, lightweight device that is worn by pedestrians. The BodyGuard® i-Tag system will only activate when Tags are detected within the exclusion zone, the system is highly immune to self activation or false alarm from other devices. The Tag unit is battery powered. The batteries typically last around 6 months (dependant on environment and how often the Tag enters the exclusion zone over this period). The batteries are replaceable when expired. The Tag unit is water resistant and can be worn using supplied neck lanyard, placed into pocket or onto a belt or attached to a hard-hat. (Note: Batteries in Tags that have vibra-tion fitted will need to be replaced more frequently than the standard Tag device battery).

The Tag can be detected through the body, ensuring detection from behind, and through most solid objects (including metal). For ex-ample: a person bending down behind a pallet during stock take can be detected by forklift moving to place forks into the pallet.

The maximum distance of the exclusion zone (radius from Sensor unit to Tag device) is adjustable from approximately 0.5m to around 10-12m. The Tags will activate any BodyGuard® "i-Tag" system when it is detected within the exclusion zone set for that vehicle. This means the Tag will operate an any site or location where the BodyGuard® "i-Tag" system is fitted onto vehicles without the need for programming or changes to be made.

Several set-up options are available for the system
  1. Driver only notification—This is the standard system where driver receives visual and audible warning when a pedestrian is too close to their vehicle.
  2. Pedestrian only notification—This option consists of Sensors only fitted to vehicles (NO Cab Alert unit required). In the case of a vehicle being detected too close to a vehicle, the Tag vibrates to alert the pedestrian.
  3. Both Pedestrian AND driver notification—This option involves the standard system in addition to the vibration option fitted to the Tags.
All Tags, Sensors and Cab Alert units are compatible with each other regardless of the mode of operation as described above.

Are within detection zones). Tags can be tested for functionality and battery level using the "i-Tag Test Station" discussed later in this document.
NOTE: Due to the fact that the driver is in control of the moving vehicle and the pedestrian reaction to alert may be unpredictable (may run into other danger or may not be able to move out of way of vehicle quickly enough) Orbit recommends system configuration option (1).

Personal Tag Unit
Configuration Kit

The configuration kit provides a convenient method for setting up the BodyGuard® system remotely. The long range Bluetooth link between the BodyGuard® Cab Alert unit and the smart configuration device enables access to the vehicle up to a couple of hundred metres away. This means the system can be set up without needing to have physical access to the vehicle or need to start the engine. Connection to the vehicles can be accomplished from any convenient location on the site within Bluetooth range.

The configuration kit enables:
  • Set up Detection zone range between sensor units and Tags (set maximum range between 0.5m to approx. 10m)
  • Add or remove Sensors to the vehicle
  • Set the Cab Alert speaker volume (32 level adjustment from quiet to very loud)
  • Set Cab Alert system Clock (used for timestamp of history records)
  • Manage history logs and transfer logs to web site for convenient access from any web browser
  • Various other system parameter settings
The p-Tag configuration kit also provides a Reference Tag unit for setup of detection zone ranges

BodyGuard® Cab Alert History Log

Each BodyGuard® unit stores the last 6000 events that can be used as method of audit of system performance and trend analysis of workplace safety. The logs include items such as:
  • Tag Detection
  • Tag Cleared
  • Vehicle Engine Started
  • Vehicle Engine Stopped
  • Mute Button pressed
  • Driver Tag Locked
  • Changes to system by configuration kit (Changed speaker volume, added sensor, set clock etc)
  • Diagnostic information such as Sensor and system health (regular "heartbeat" provides snapshot of working system)

Standard History log data is available from the Orbit web portal as Excel spreadsheet. (Optional weekly analysis and trend reports are available by subscription).

i-Tag Test Station
i-Tag Test Station

The i-Tag test station provides a method of determining the state of a personal Tag device before entering a work site.

The system detects the presence of a Tag within 2m of the test station and will give a positive indication for correctly working Tag with healthy battery. When a correctly operating Tag with healthy battery is detected the system will provide 2 short beeps and light the GREEN lamp.

If the Tag battery is low, the system will give a long single tone and switch on the RED lamp.
As the worker moves out of the 2m zone, the system will reset ready for the next Tag.
If the Tag is non-functional, the test station will not respond and the worker should not enter the site but should replace the Tag for a good working device.

The Tag Test station ensures all workers have a correctly operating Tag with healthy battery before entering a work site.

The Tag station also contains a history log of the last 10,000 Tags detected. This can be uploaded using the Handheld configuration device and analyzed. This provides a means to positively identify Tags entering a work area. The worker walking past the test station after the shift will cause another record in the log, therefore enabling total time on site to be calculated.
