Asciano begins new logistics contract

Thursday, 4 Sep 2014 ( #683 ) - Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Local News Story
Asciano has begun a new 3-year integrated logistics services contract for PF Olsen Australia, the nation’s largest independent forest management services provider.
Asciano subsidiaries Pacific National and C3 have begun a new three-year integrated logistics services contract for PF Olsen Australia, the nation’s largest independent forest management services provider, to handle and haul approximately 175,000 T of export Australian logs annually from Bathurst to Port Botany in New South Wales.

C3 will provide log receipt, scaling, packing, storage and handling, load and unload and inventory management services in Bathurst, with Pacific National delivering rail haulage services three times a week from Bathurst to Port Botany. Patrick Terminals and Logistics, also part of Asciano, is expected to stevedore parts of the freight.

"This new contract illustrates the complementary skills of Asciano’s operating divisions and our ability to integrate services across the supply chain to meet customer needs," says Andrew Wiggill, GM – Australia, C3 Limited.

PF Olsen Australia MD Pat Groenhout says the project will not only provide employment growth in the Bathurst area, but open up new market opportunities for the region’s private plantation owners.

Bathurst-based employees will be engaged to handle and prepare the timber for transfer from the recently re-opened Bathurst Rail Intermodal Terminal. From the terminal, Pacific National will commence three new rail services weekly, travelling to Port Botany via Lithgow, Clyde and Enfield in Sydney.

"We are pleased that the contract will enable us to re-establish our rail intermodal terminal in Bathurst, and are hopeful that this new contract will help spur additional growth in rail volume in the area," says Bob Parton, Pacific National’s service delivery manager for the Bathurst region.

Asciano is the region’s largest combined rail and ports operator, with an annual turnover of $3.7 billion and over 8,500 full-time employees across Australia and New Zealand.
